If two schools in Cebu, Philippines, can collaborate to clean the Butuanon River, imagine what could happen if everyone modeled their actions? For this team, “big things start with small beginnings,” as they take the first step toward creating a greener archipelago.

    Using the before and after pictures was a great idea to show the urgent situation of the Butuanon river. If and when the Butuanon has all the filth filtered out what will happen to the filth? What would you do after you filter the Butuanon and would you share the idea with other countries if they had the same problem?

    It’s really nice to see people that are legitimately concerned about the health of the environment. If it weren’t for students and schools involved in cleaning our environment, the Earth would be a very dirty place.

    Awesome job with this project! It was well organized and spaced out and really got your point across. I also really admire your biofilter idea. The before and after pictures were good and your timeline seemed achievable, however, you might want to change the order so its the before pictures, the timeline, and then the after pictures so people can see how fulfilling the activities on the timeline will lead to the after pictures. All in all, great job!

    Your project goals are very impressive! I love the detail in biofilter models, and the nobility of the cause you are planning for.

    I hope this works out, and that the “renovated” river can be used for sustainable agriculture purposes as well!

      You’re project is an inspiration to the world, not just that you created a well functioning irrigation system, but also showing how two schools can work together and accomplish something. Irrigation be crucial to a civilization and watching children create an irrigation system is amazing! Good luck!!!!

      This initiative seems to be very well thought out! Your before and after images inspire work, but you also understand the long road ahead. Your before and after pictures show the removal of vegetation, however, which concerns me. I would suggest looking at the impact the removal of vegetation has on an ecosystem.

      I really enjoyed the organization of your slideshow, it was very informative. The pictures of the river helped me see the issue at hand. I like the big ideas for this project, but everything comes with time. Do a little bit of the project at once. Also have you considered posters? That could help spread the word and help gain volunteers to help with this issue.

      Good ideas but I would like to know more about your filtering system such as what kind of media you are using etc.
      Also I am a little confused on the overflow connected to the outflow as it seems it might contaminate the filtered water.

      Water pollution is a serious problem which needs a serious solution and the article is very helpful in taking step by step procedure to clean the river. I myself is interested in this project and willing to help.

        Well done planning the project! The project seems to be very organized with specific deadline for each step of the project. As a student of CIS, I have always thought it paradoxical to learn about the environment and have dirty river just next to CIS. Having a clean river nearby will encourage more environmentalist activity. Let us get everyone in school involved.

        Great job making your project manageable over a timeline by setting activities on certain dates. The way the different phases of your project are proposed to be done make an organized agenda. I really like the idea of putting a park by the river. It will allow for greater enjoyment and appreciation as well as motivation for maintenance of the river.

        I am personally very excited to see how clearly you have planned out every step it will take to reach your goal. By breaking your overall goal into much smaller bite-sized pieces, it has a much higher chance of being realized and replicated by neighboring communities.         I had the great pleasure of listening to your group presentation. You were very thorough in understanding the behaviors causing the pollution and in developing a natural, effective method combating the contamination. I want to praise your for being undaunted by the scope of the project. By choosing one section of the river to work on and having success there, you are now able to replicate your work in other areas.
